French or English?
on Nov 25Over recent weeks we have gained some excellent insights into the spheres of political, economic and social sentiment. This week’s sentiment follows in the lines of the ‘just for fun’ category; after all it’s not all work, work, work! We tested our geographical and language skills to push the same question independently into two countries.
We asked the British population, “Most attractive women? – French or English and simultaneously asked our French counterparts, “Les filles les plus attractifs? – Francaises or Anglaises.
Once we were over the initial grammatical nuances of language, the questions went live. It’s fair to say that it attracted a lot of real-time attention from everyone in the office and arguments were stilled……for a while, anyhow.
The question was formed on the back of several weeks of debating English vs. French specialities ranging from food, cars, films etc. Personally, I was keen to uphold the British standard and prove categorically that our English Roses were far finer than our French friends. My European colleagues were holding up the Pro-French camp.
Surprisingly (sic), the French vote favoured French ladies, whereas the English vote favoured English Ladies. However; deeper within the analysis of sentiment lay the true horror of our findings.
69% of French people prefer French women.
63% of English people prefer English women.
Only in Auvergne did the English come close to a draw. Sentiment to favour French women was consistent.
London, Scotland and Wales tended to favour French women over English. Overall we favoured English women, but a few of those sampled were more attracted to French.
Conclusion: Chose your battles carefully! People of Britain, come on, where’s your allegiance. People of France, we admire your honesty.
Thanks to all those who took part in the sample. We’re really enjoying analysing your sentimental musings.
